A new indie game puts players in the cockpit of firefighting aircraft, challenging them to protect communities from advancing wildfires. Developed in Phaser by the Home Team Game Dev team, with Victor Debone as lead developer, The Wildfires offers an engaging mix of resource management and aerial firefighting action.

Players can choose from three distinct aircraft, each with its own strengths. The nimble Canadair CL-415 can quickly scoop up 6,000 liters of water, while the massive Martin JRM-3 Mars carries an impressive 27,000-liter payload. For a different approach, the Sikorsky S-64 SkyCrane helicopter provides versatility with its 10,000-liter tank.

The game spans three diverse environments: The Islands, the Continent, and the Coast. Each level presents unique challenges as players work to protect settlements from advancing fires. The mechanics are straightforward but strategic – fly over water bodies to collect water, then choose between dropping it directly on fires or laying down fire retardant to create defensive lines.

What sets The Wildfires apart is its evacuation system. As fires approach populated areas, communities begin evacuating, with larger settlements requiring more time to clear out. This creates a compelling risk-reward dynamic where players must prioritize their responses and manage their resources effectively.

With its accessible controls (WASD or arrow keys) and clear objectives, The Wildfires offers an engaging experience that highlights the challenges faced by aerial firefighters while remaining entertaining and respectful of its serious subject matter.
